Dear Candidate,

The Humanist Association of Canada is a charitable, not-for-profit organization that defends the rights of non-believers across Canada. On behalf of the 27% (twenty-seven percent) of the population that a recent Harris/Decima poll has demonstrated are non-believers, we propose that Open Secularism become the standard for public buildings and publicly-funded institutions.

Open Secularism is the practice of declaring those public places and institutions to be free of religion. While individuals will still be able to wear personal statements of faith, and, indeed, would be given the opportunity to pray silently during moments of silent meditation, religious rituals would be removed from the daily practices of those institutions.

Put simply, we would like to know your stand on implementing Open Secularism in Canada’s public institutions. Please respond by checking the appropriate space below:

__ I support Open Secularism in Canada’ public places and institutions.

__ I do not support Open Secularism in Canada’s public places and institutions.

Please return this survey letter to us via fax at: 613.739.4801, or email at: humanist.canada@gmail.com

Thank you for responding and good luck in your campaign.

Sincerely,

Kathy Meidell
Executive Director, Humanist Association of Canada
